Last month the Family Friendly Film Festival joined forces with the Odeon cinema for a special screening of Disney's Bedtime Stories starring Adam Sandler.
Bernadette, one of our Film Festival reviewers, took her seven year old daughter and her friend from school to see the film and this is what they thought:
"The film is rated as a PG; I would say that children from the age of 5+ would be the best age group to aim for with this very funny film. It stars Adam Sandler as a hotel handyman called Skeeter Bronson, who just so happens to have a best friend called Mickey (Russell Brand); the 2 of them work very well together and their scenes are hilarious in the film!
Skeeter is asked to look after his niece and nephew for a week at night-time while his sister, Wendy (Courteney Cox) has to go to Arizona for a week, to try and find a job. Her best friend, Jill (Keri Russell), looks after the children during the day. The children are generally into eating all the healthy foodstuffs that children should eat and they do not have a TV in their house, that is until Skeeter begins to look after them and once watching some TV and eating some great junk food, they begin to enjoy staying with Uncle Skeeter! He then goes on to begin reading them bedtime stories at night, the first story being about a brave knight who actually wasn't a real knight in the end (he was just a peasant!)... There is a great scene in the film where Skeeter decides to make a sandwich made of wheatgerm, banana and toothpasted for breakfast (not my cup of tea, but the kids certainly laughed about that bit!)....
In the final scenes of the film the choice has to be made by the boss of the hotel chain as to which man will be running the new hotel. It's a close call between Skeeter and Kendall - Kendall makes his speech and intends to use the theme of Broadway for the new hotel but just before Skeeter makes his speech, a bee decides to sting his tongue, preventing him from talking - the girls and I felt that this was almost the most funny part of the film - Russell Brand ended up having to interpret Skeeter's speech which was hilarious. In the end, Skeeter saved the day and wins both the job as well as the lady, his sister's best friend, Jill.
The 2 girls absolutely loved this extremely entertaining, funny, comical and magical film - one rated it 10 out of 10 and the other rated it 109/10! - They have asked me if I would take them to see the same film again and I would certainly do so, and would recommend this film to everyone."
